The Hourglass The hour glass figure is considered the ideal body type by many women. For women with this body type, the bust and hip are approximately the same size, and the waist is narrow. This gives you a set of sexy, killer curves. When dressing your hourglass figure, look for styles and fabrics that reduce bulk and prevent boxiness. Also look for pieces that draw attention to your narrow waist. With an ample chest, a narrow waist, and full (but not wide) hips, this shape, although evenly proportioned, can seem as if it’s all angles. Pencil skirts that fit well are ideal for the hourglass as they accentuate your wonderful curves. Other skirts can work too but will usually look better when they end around the knee. Opt for flat front boot cut trousers, preferably with stretch for a snug fit. Choose shoes that accentuate your curves, like shoes with rounded toes, peep toes or bows. Ideal tops for the hourglass shape are scooped or V necks as these will accentuate your bust. Wrap tops and tops with belts are also good for the hour glass women, the belt or tie will be a feature and style will fall on your slender waistline. When looking at fabrics aim to buy sheer, soft, clingy fabrics and avoid stiff bulky fabrics and design as they will not be figure hugging. The vertical striped tops can be a good way of elongating your body especially if the garment is fitted or gathered in, this will give the effect of drawing the stripes into your narrow waist area. Choose clothes that work and move with your natural curves, not against them, STYLES TO AVOID Avoid Shapeless or boxy styles, like baby-doll dresses, tunics, and oversize cardigans and tops and blouses. Also high necklines like turtle necks as they draw attention to the waist, And to stay away from frills around the hem or of a top as these will add width to your hips making you look unbalanced. |
The Apple iF you tend to gain weight around the middle or you simply want to hide a few post-pregnancy pounds, clothes should fit loosely around the midsection to conceal a full stomach and more snugly elsewhere to play up thin limbs. To dress your apple-shaped body, you'll want to take attention away from your mid section. Wear small subtle patterns on top, A great print skirt with a solid colour sweater will flatter your shape. Go for longer jackets and make sure they are on the longer side never ending at waist level. Opt for drop waists. A dress or top with a drop waist (that narrows down at the point of your hips instead of your true waist) bypasses any constricting fabric around the tummy area and makes your torso appear longer and leaner overall. Think 80/20 above the waist. By wearing 80% of your best colours above the waist you can afford the 20% that is are are not your best like perhaps black. Show plenty of skin. The more you cover your body in black the more it will affect your total appearance. A black dress is easier to pull off if you expose your arms and your show a bit of skin in your neckline. STYLES TO AVOID Avoid clingy shirts or dresses and high-rise pants and big puffa jackets. Say no to big shapeless garments that don't show any waist or don't use vertical layers. Also bulky trousers with lots of pockets and zippers at the front and thick belts. Avoid high necklines (wearing lighter tops underneath a layering piece is good). However keep away from clingy T-shirts & avoid wearing everything in one solid colour. It is much better to mix colour with a texture or to use several layers in different colors to creat vertical lines. |
The Pear Try wearing a long necklace to fill in the neckline, which also adds to the lengthening of your upper body. Show off your shoulders. The shoulders are a great and sexy part of a woman's body. Especially if you're pear-shaped, you want to show them off by wearing off-the-shoulder tops that expose one or bothshoulders. its all about elongating your torso and waist. To properly achieve this, it’s vital to avoid wearing any shirts that end above your hips. Always dress for success by ensuring your shirts and sweaters end below the hip-line. Always wear something darker and slimming on the bottom, like dark jeans or slacks, or a dark knee-length pencil skirt or A-line skirt. And, no, that doesn’t mean that you always have to wear black on the bottom, but make sure that the bottom is solid in color and darker than whatever you have on top. For your shape you want to direct attention to your tops. Fun colors, prints, or details at the neck all serve the purpose of drawing the eye away from the hip area. Look for those with ruffles or beading along the bottom hem to draw attention to your curvy bottom half without adding bulk to your hips. Placing these details at the knee or lower may even help balance out your hips. Just make sure that your tops don’t end at your hips because that draws unnecessary attention there. For example, you can combine a tailored, flared pant with an attractive, eye-catching top can play up a pear’s best features. STYLES TO AVOID Avoid shorter jackets and coats that end at your bum though as this will draw the eye to your large middle section with a horizontal line. Avoid tight-fitting skirts, glitzy pants and belts and stay away from bottoms embellished with buttoms, sequins or bold embroidery near your hips and rear end. |
The Rectangle If you tend have no defined waist and your hips tend to have a similar width as the shoulders You do not have a lot of curves and your bust tends to be small or average and your bottom tends to be flat As a rectangle you will want to create more curves and a pleasing silhouette. You can do this by defining the waist and creating curves on the bottom or top. On the other hand, you can also get away with a straight look and surrender the waist line altogether, which is a look that I’m quite fond of. If you want to add curves then avoid straight dresses, but you can also opt for the waistless look Use strong blocks of color to help define your body. As for most body types, be sure to wear a good bra to define what bust you have. Wear tops and jackets that emphasize the waist. Choose a coat with a good waist or that is belted at the waist Any jacket tailored around the waist will look great You can use some shoulder padding (don’t overdo it though) Medium to high necklines usually work well, especially if you have s small bust and long neck If you like to create the illusion of bigger breasts, choose tops with pockets, rushes, pleating and other front details. Halter necks will also give the appearance of a bigger bust and shows off your back STYLES TO AVOID Accessorize with belts around the waist. Heavy belts can be really good if you’re also long waisted If you have no waist at all, then a belt is best avoided. Shift dresses and empire line dresses work well, but I also like to break the rule with dropped waist dresses! What ever works. Avoid shapeless clothes which will only highlight instead of cover up. |
